Into The Mountains Tour
Quick Info and Highlights
-
This hike ascends steep trails that are sometimes loose and rocky. Inclement weather including rain and high winds are possible. With that said, many of our best hikes have been in those conditions. You’ll feel amazing with the wind whipping around you.
-
One of the things that sets up apart is that we do not provide specific mileages or elevation gains for our hikes. Each hike is tailored to the group, and your guide will pick the trail and pace based on what they think will best suit you best. They are experts in this regard, and strive to give an individually incredible experience to every group that passes through.
-
This is a strenuous adventure, and due to this we cannot allow anyone under the age of 12 on this tour.
-
Because we will be venturing out on rarely-traveled trails, there is a good chance of seeing wildlife. Our guides have spotted ptarmigan, grouse, moose, bear, porcupine, weasels, and much more on the Into the Mountains Tour.
-
Trails on this hike are at times very steep and somewhat loose. They are not as frequently maintained as those in the Lower 48.
-
Getting up above the treeline affords panoramic views of Denali National Park and the surrounding Alaska Range. Watch the powerful Nenana River wind off into the distance, and keep an eye out for whitewater rafts floating down its silty gray expanse.
-
We don’t believe in having to rent gear or buy a National Parks pass to have a good time on our hike. That’s why it’s all included on your hike. We have rain jackets for you if it gets a little rainy. We also offer trekking poles to anyone who wants them.
-
Water, comfortable hiking shoes or boots, and layers! While our guides will have snacks available, bring your own food if you want something more substantial.
-
Less people, better tours. That's why we don't load you onto a big bus with dozens of other travelers. Our group sizes are capped at 8 for this tour. That means you get a much more personal tour.
Tour Description
Do you like jaw-dropping views? A good workout? Learning about Denali? If you answered “no” to any of those questions, stop reading now. This tour isn’t for you. If you’re still reading, then this might be exactly what you’re looking for. This is the tour that one satisfied customer (Alicia G.) said was “the best guided tour I have ever had.”
Are you ready? Leave the buses and boardwalks behind. Hike high into the Alaska Range. Feel the wind in your hair and the rocks beneath your feet. As the views begin to unfold, you won’t be able to peel your eyes away. The rugged mountains rise around you like monolithic castles. The wide valleys stretch into the distance. The greens, reds, and blues of the tundra create a patchwork quilt unlike any other.
Now pick your jaw back up! There’s more to see, and higher to go! Toil further up the steep ridge. Scramble over jagged rocks. Stroll along saddles filled with beautiful alpine wildflowers. Later in the season, enjoy the bounty of wild blueberries, lingonberries, currants, and more.
Keep an eye out for the elusive Dall sheep. You’re in their domain now! Your guide will point out signs of them everywhere. Maybe they’ll even lead you along a sheep trail for a time. But sheep aren’t the only animal you might see. Our clients have seen moose, bear, ptarmigan, stoats, porcupines, and more on the Into the Mountains Tour.
So what do you think? Will you continue with the buses and boardwalks of most people’s Denali vacations? Or will you embark with us on a grand adventure into the Alaska Range, gaining a vantage point normally reserved for the Dall sheep and golden eagles? The choice is yours.

Disclaimer: This tour may take place outside National Park boundaries. Our priority is to take you on the best trails the Denali area has to offer. Because Denali National Park is also a wildlife preserve, they are very selective about the trails we can guide on. We will take you on the best trails we can, whether that be inside or outside the official boundaries of the National Park. If you want a tour that is guaranteed to be inside the National Park, book our Naturalist Walking Tour. If you want the experience described on this page, book this tour and enjoy!
